Description: Wetlands in the "Exit Glacier Development Area" were mapped at a scale of about 1:8,000. The wetlands were mapped using stereo-paired imagery (1:12,000), field visits (17-19 July 2012) and heads-up digitizing in ArcMap 10 (at various scales). Wetlands were classified using the Cook Inlet Classification, which was developed to classify wetlands in the Cook Inlet Basin based on landform names and hydroperiod. The wetlands mapped in the Exit Glacier Development Area fall into two broad categories: those adjacent to the braidplain of Exit Crek, and those receiving groundwater discharge. The wetlands along the creek are mapped as RD3T1 or RD4T1 which are wetlands on lower terraces (T1) of braidplains (RD) dominated by cobbles (3) or gravels (4). Additionally, the main channel of both Exit Creek and the Ressurection River are mapped as RD3C and RD4C, respectively, indicating that the bed material in this reach of the Ressurection River is perdominantly gravel, and the bed of Exit Creek is predominantly cobbles. The wetlands receiving groundwater discharge (as determined by measurement of specific conductance) are mapped as SP, SAS and SPA. Wetlands mapped as SP are Discharge Slope (S) wetlands domniated by Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) (P). Those mapped as SAS are dominated by thinleaf alder (Alnus incana ssp tenuifolia) (A), and willow (predominantly Barclay willow (Salix barclayi)) (S), with the alder component covering more area. Those mapped as SPA are dominated by Sitka spruce and thinleaf alder, with more extensive spruce than alder.
