This data set includes all parcels in the Kittatinny Ridge landscape that are > 10 acres and that are not conserved. A series of geoprocessing functions were applied to calculate the following attributes for each parcel:

-Adjacency to Conserved Land (within 1km) – yes/no (Conserved Lands are defined as the following “PA Conserved Land” datasets available from PALTA: Federal, State, Privately (Land Trust) Owned, Conservation Easements, and Farmland Preservation Easements. Available at: https://conserveland.org/blog/new-maps-identify-conserved-land-and-land-trust-service-areas/)

-Parcel Category Name:

--Conserved Lands Expansion: >75% undeveloped land cover AND <1km from conserved land

--Connectivity Gap: >75% undeveloped land cover AND > 1km from conserved land

--Priority: <75% undeveloped land cover

-Natural Heritage Area (Core Habitats) – yes/no and NHA name or “None”

-Active River Area – yes/no

ATTRIBUTES ADDED BY THE NATURE CONSERVANCY:

-Adj50Con - Adjacency to Conserved Land (within 50 meters) - yes/no (same definition of Conserved Lands as above)

-ConCat50 - Recalculated parcel categories with a smaller definition of adjacency to conserved land (50m rather than 1km):

--Conserved Lands Expansion: >75% undeveloped land cover AND <50m from conserved land

--Connectivity Gap: >75% undeveloped land cover AND > 50m from conserved land

--Priority: <75% undeveloped land cover

This work was funded by the Kittatinny Coalition.

In September 2020, The Nature Conservancy edited the datasets produced by CLUS (a) to correct selection errors related to conserved parcels, (b) to redefine adjacency to conserved land (as within 50m rather than 1km) and recalculate the Parcel Category field accordingly, and (c) to remove road right-of-way and creek parcels in Cumberland County from the unconserved lands dataset. TNC also updated the metadata and created a data package for sharing with Kittatinny Coalition partners.
